Gallery Chang Seoul Presents: “Afterglow”
A Solo Exhibition by Mark Acetelli
[July 4-Jully 3o] | Gallery Chang, Seoul, Korea
Gallery Chang is proud to present Afterglow, a solo exhibition of new works by Los Angeles-based artist Mark Acetelli, on view at our Seoul location from July 4, through July 3o.
In this new body of work, Acetelli continues his exploration of emotion through abstraction, offering meditative compositions that balance minimalism with deep atmospheric intensity. Historically, Acetelli’s work aligns with the expressive atmospheres of J.M.W. Turner and the spiritual minimalism of Mark Rothko. Like Turner, Acetelli seeks not to represent reality, but to evoke the immaterial—light, breath, emotion—through luminous, dissolving form. Rothko’s influence appears in his contemplative color fields, which invite silence and introspection rather than interpretation.
Acetelli’s paintings are deeply rooted in the Zen concept of ma (間)—the space between things. His process is one of quiet intuition: layering, erasure, and gesture. Through this reductive yet expressive method, he distills fleeting emotional states and opens a space for viewers to encounter their own internal landscapes reflected in the canvas. Here, emptiness is not absence—it is presence. Each work becomes a vessel for stillness, intention, and potential.
Essence in Abstraction invites us into a space of pause—a place where painting becomes both an object and an experience, a visual meditation on time, memory, and the intangible nature of being.
